ROUNDUP: Granite Staters on Why They’re Backing Chris Pappas for U.S. Senate
MANCHESTER, N.H. — With just 15 days until Election Day, Granite Staters are making clear in op-eds and letters to the editor why Congressman Chris Pappas is the right choice for U.S. Senate on November 3: he’ll stand up to a reckless president, take on corporate special interests, and deliver for New Hampshire families.
Chris Pappas is running for Senate to lower costs for New Hampshire families and small businesses and create a freer, fairer future for Granite Staters. Trump-endorsed candidate John Sununu said he is running for Senate because this race is “important to President Trump’s agenda,” and he supports and has downplayed the worst parts of that agenda — including Trump’s war with Iran, Trump’s tariff taxes, and Trump’s cuts to health care.

Union Leader: Sen. Lou D’Allesandro: Compare Pappas and Sununu on Social Security
By Senator Lou D’Allesandro, 10/8/26
- A hit dog will holler, and John Sununu has been doing a whole lot of hollering lately about his terrible record on Social Security.
- He recently insisted, in remarks to the New Hampshire Republican Party, that his Social Security plan during his single term in the U.S. Senate nearly two decades ago was not privatization.
- That’s quite a claim from a man whose record tells a very different story.
- The truth is that John Sununu spent his political career leading efforts to privatize Social Security, putting millions of Americans’ retirements at risk by gambling their benefits away to Wall Street.
- He championed personal accounts — a scheme that would have shifted workers’ retirement savings into private investment accounts and exposed their benefits to the risks of the financial markets.
- The historical record is not in dispute: the Associated Press described Sununu in 2005 as an “enthusiastic supporter” of Social Security personal accounts, declaring him a leader in the so-called “modernizing” of Social Security.
- Sununu led efforts to privatize Social Security — specifically the Personal Lockbox Act — which would have steered worker retirement funds into personal accounts and risked cuts to tens of thousands of New Hampshire retirees’ benefits.
- […]
- I know that Chris will always fight to protect Social Security because listening to and standing up for the hardworking Granite Staters who count on him has always been at the heart of his work. And he doesn’t just promise never to cut benefits or move the goalposts for New Hampshire seniors — he has a record that proves he delivers.
- Chris cosponsored the Social Security Fairness Act, which repealed provisions that reduced Social Security benefits for certain public-sector workers. He has opposed efforts to undermine the program, and just recently signed a bicameral letter urging the majority in Congress to protect Social Security — that record has earned him the endorsement of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare PAC.
- Chris Pappas has promised — and proven — that he will always honor the promise of Social Security.
- That’s the Chris I know. It’s the Chris I have watched work and deliver for New Hampshire, and it’s why I trust him to stand up for New Hampshire seniors when it matters most.
- But when John Sununu had his chance to make good on that same promise, he chose to prioritize Wall Street instead.
- So John Sununu can holler all he wants. But New Hampshire voters will remember what he actually did.
- I know which record I trust when it comes to protecting the hard-earned benefits of New Hampshire seniors — that’s why I’m proud to be voting for Chris Pappas for U.S. Senate this November 3.
Monadnock Ledger-Transcript: Letter: Put a stop to it
By Larry Duberstein, 10/18/26
- Why is it absolutely necessary for New Hampshire to send Chris Pappas to the Senate? Well, there’s the fact that he is a fine man, has been a fine representative, and will make a fine Senator. That would be enough in normal times – which these are not.
- Apart from the fact that his opponent is the Lesser Sununu, whose chief selling point is his last name, this Sununu would become one more robotic Republican rubber stamp for the man who has claimed more power in two years than all previous presidents together claimed in 250, broken more laws, ignored or gamed the Constitution in more ways, enriched himself lavishly through ceaseless baldfaced corruption, spent taxpayer money building monuments to himself, and driven the cost of living through the roof through vainglorious tariffs and his expensive, unnecessary and failed war. And “much, much more,” as the hucksters say when selling you something worth nothing.
- Vote for all this? For a crass narcissist who has depicted himself as Jesus, as the Pope, as Elvis?
- Please put a check on this reckless, feckless blackguard by sending the Lesser Sununu back to his corporate boards and sending Chris Pappas to the U.S. Senate.
Manchester Ink Link: The Soapbox: The only poll that matters
By Fred Portnoy, 10/19/26
- It is heartening to see polls suggesting that Democratic candidates are gaining ground across the country. But encouraging polls can also breed complacency, leading people to assume the outcome is assured and that their votes are no longer needed. Nothing could be further from the truth.
- In the times we are in, Democratic vote totals need to be unquestionably overwhelming. November 3 is only the beginning of a long correction, digging out of the MAGA years.
- To confirm your voter registration and polling place, visit the NH voter information website at app.sos.nh.gov/voterinformation.
- If Sununu wins, he will stand with Trump. We need Chris Pappas to stand as our Senator, and Stefany Shaheen and Maggie Goodlander in Congress. And of course all of our local candidates here in New Hampshire.
- Please don’t take encouraging polls for granted. Show up, vote, and support the entire Democratic ticket.
Valley News: Letter: Timing is everything
By Woody Canaday, 10/16/26
- Former New Hampshire Senator John Sununu is running again, 24 years after his previous term began. Sununu said, as reported by The Wall Street Journal, that Trump will be in office for two of Sununu’s anticipated six years, implying we should focus on the following four years.
- That misses the mark. The Republican-controlled Senate has been supine before violations of Congressional prerogatives that are embedded in the U.S. Constitution, including the power of the purse, and the power to declare war. The latest of many: The Trump administration plans to divert $52 million previously designated by Congress for Ukraine-related military assistance to its other priorities. Sen. Shaheen and Rep. Meeks contend that this violates the law’s restrictions.
- We need a senator who will fight now to stop usurpations and restore the balancing power that belongs to Congress under the Constitution. […] I believe Chris Pappas has the courage, energy, and commitment to do what is right.
Laconia Daily Sun: Dave Pollak: Voting for Congressman Chris Pappas in Nov. 3 election
By Dave Pollak, 10/13/26
- Congressman Chris Pappas was a gracious winner in the U.S. Senate primary, thanking and complimenting his opponent, but personal courtesy isn’t why he has earned my vote. It was his pledge to take on corruption in Washington.
- Specifically, Pappas promised to author legislation banning stock trading by members of Congress. For too long, lawmakers have traded individual stocks in industries they regulate, using insider knowledge to enrich themselves while regular families face the consequences. It creates a glaring conflict of interest and destroys public trust in our institutions.
- A stock trading ban won’t fix every political issue overnight, but it is an important step toward institutional integrity.
- From reducing prices to expanding healthcare access and from strengthening our democracy to supporting Ukraine, there is a litany of urgent issues Congress must address. Banning congressional stock trading is a small step in the morass that is Washington, but it is a good place to start.
I will be voting for Chris Pappas in November.
Conway Daily Sun: We need Rep. Chris Pappas to stand up against Trump
By Bruce Borofsky, 10/12/26
- Voter anger at the corruption, cruelty, greed and waste of the Trump administration is at an all-time high. If the polls are right and Trump doesn’t use the Insurrection Act to overturn the election results, there will be a reckoning. The Republican Party has refused to stand up to this oligarchy, making its members complicit in the administration’s theft of our wealth, its cruelty toward the weak and needy and the destruction of our relationships with our now-former allies. Public executions? Seriously?
- We need unity to overcome the horrific state we see as our future. However you may feel about Republican senatorial candidate John E. Sununu, if he wins, he will stand with Trump. Vote for Rep. Chris Pappas to hold the Trump administration accountable. We need Chris Pappas to stand as our senator.

Laconia Daily Sun: Former senator John Sununu is no friend of environment
By Mark Longley, 10/7/26
- John E. Sununu’s environmental record in Congress is well documented. While in office, he opposed climate bills like the Climate Stewardship Act of 2003. He supported oil drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. He voted against implementing stricter standards for arsenic in New Hampshire drinking water. His lifetime rating at The League of Conservation Voters is 35%. Let’s trust our personal health, as well as the planet’s health, to the candidate whose lifetime LCV rating is 97%: Chris Pappas.
