ICYMI: Keene Sentinel Endorses Congressman Chris Pappas for U.S Senate

MANCHESTER, N.H. — In case you missed it, the Keene Sentinel endorsed Congressman Chris Pappas in the race for U.S. Senate, citing his record of delivering for New Hampshire and his commitment to tackling the issues facing Granite Staters — from the rising cost of living to access to affordable health care.

Granite Staters deserve a senator who will put them first, not Trump-endorsed John Sununu, who is running to be another rubber stamp for Trump’s agenda. Pappas has a proven record of finding bipartisan solutions and delivering results for hardworking families — and he’ll bring that same commitment to the U.S. Senate.

Keene Sentinel: Sentinel Opinion: For Congress; Granite Staters’ best options are Pappas in the Senate and Goodlander in the House

As the congressional midterms approach, President Trump has been barnstorming across the country, urging people to vote as if he were on the ballot.

  • Were that the sole consideration, it should be easy for voters in this region to mark their ballots in the congressional races here for Chris Pappas and Maggie Goodlander to represent them in the U.S. Senate and 2nd Congressional District, respectively.
  • Put simply, the first half of Trump’s second term has left the country in a dangerously weakened position. Tariff wars, the Iranian war, immigration enforcement that reaches well beyond both border protection and deportation of criminals to ruin hard-working and law-abiding families’ lives, and ill-advised stripping of essential healthcare and other safety-net services are just some of his policies that have left Americans paying more at the pump, at the grocery store and for housing, childcare and — assuming it’s even accessible — medical care.
  • And, while making life so unaffordable for so many, the president has championed tax breaks for the very wealthy as he shamelessly enriches himself and his family.
  • Even if the president is not the measuring stick, however, both Pappas and Goodlander offer compelling reasons for voters to be enthusiastic about supporting them.
  • […]
  • But Pappas has also staked out some specific positions that should lead voters concerned about affordability and the country’s direction to support him. He endorses reversing the Medicaid cuts and the elimination of Affordable Care Act premium subsidies that have limited too many Granite Staters’ access to adequate healthcare and caused cutbacks in rural healthcare services, including the announced closure of Cheshire Medical Center’s Winchester clinic and the shuttering of birthing centers elsewhere in the state.
  • […] he can point to his votes in favor of the bipartisan housing bill, reducing prescription drug costs and expanding the child tax credit as evidence of how he would represent New Hampshire in the Senate.
  • Pappas has also called for addressing the inequities enacted as part of the president’s so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act that gave tax breaks to the nation’s wealthiest. For his part, Sununu expressed satisfaction in a podcast appearance that “we’re in a pretty good place with the Big Bill” and is not in favor of any changes. That, together with his generally endorsing the work of DOGE under Elon Musk, gives reason to think that, as much as Sununu seeks to distance himself from Trump, there is not much policy daylight between them.
